What do McDonald’s and impressionist painters Edouard Manet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir have in common? Well, in a way, they both represent classic and iconic imagery of their time.

Playing on this idea, DDB Athens has created ‘Meant To Be Classic’ – a fun campaign using the recognizable works of art as an advertising canvas for the fast-food chain in Greece.

Within the intricate paintings, the agency has inserted the bold golden arches while humorously showing the protagonists interacting with the takeaway food.

In one piece, we can see a young couple sharing a McDonald’s beverage; in another, two women enjoy a beach day with their bag of treats; and finally, a young lady is standing at a black-tie event where chicken nuggets are on the menu.

Gerasimos Chatzis worked on the eye-catching campaign illustrations alongside Costas Vanis and Eirini Tzioti, who coordinated on the overall art direction.
